The main objective of this study was to implement a pedagogical strategy to improve reading and writing skills in students of the First Grade of the Primary Level. To this end, five main objectives were proposed: investigate the theoretical components related to pedagogical strategies, diagnose the current level of competencies, design an improvement strategy, evaluate the proposal through experts and apply said strategy in the educational context. The methodology was based on a mixed approach study (qualitative and quantitative), descriptive type with a quasi-experimental design, in which 19 students and 1 teacher participated. The situational diagnosis revealed that a significant percentage of students have deficiencies in reading and writing, highlighting the urgent need for pedagogical interventions. Based on these findings, a strategy was designed focused on activities integrated into a school newscast, which includes reading and writing news adapted to the level of the students, promoting skills such as reading comprehension, critical thinking, writing, reading fluency. . and oral expression. The strategy was positively valued by four specialists, reaching an average percentile of 93%, which indicates high effectiveness and suitability for its application in the classroom. Subsequently, the proposal was implemented, observing significant improvements in the students' reading and writing skills. The conclusions highlight the importance of using well-founded pedagogical strategies adapted to the specific needs of students.
